According to a recent report from the census, thirteen percent of homes nationwide are vacant.  Critics points out, though, that smmer homes and second homes are also included in the vacancy statistic.

Arizona outlaws abortions based on race, sex from the Arizona Republic
Arizona became the first U.S. state to ban race and sex-selection abortions yesterday.  Under the law that Governor Jan Brwer signed, it is a felony for a doctor to perform an abortion that is based on the sex or race of a fetus.

Americans worried about Libya conflict: poll from the Agence France Presse
A recent poll by Quinnipiac University finds that half of American voters are opposed to military action in Libya, but also finds that most voters think that military action to shield civilians from Moammar Gaddafi could succeed.

Japan may have lost race to save nuclear reactor from the Guardian
Scientists believe that the radioactive core at the Fukushima nuclear power plant has melted though the bottom of its containment vessel, which means that there might be a major radiation release at the site.  There are rising calls for Japan to bury the reactors.
