2011 Extemp TOC: TOC Qual Board is Updated to Reflect the Vestavia Hills High School Tournament, the Robert D. Clark Invitational, and the Alaska and Kentucky State Tournaments

The qualification board for the 2011 Extemporaneous Speaking Tournament of Champions has been updated to reflect the Vestavia Hills High School Tournament, the Robert D. Clark Invitational, the 2011 Alaska State Tournament, and the 2011 KESDA Tournament.

Eighteen extempers qualified to the Extemp TOC last week, bringing the total number of extempers qualified to the TOC at 278.  Fifteen of these qualifications were in category 2C, since state finalists earn an automatic qualification to this year’s TOC as long as those state tournaments are held prior to April 15th.  Alaska added twelve qualifiers, Kentucky added three, Oregon gained its first two qualifiers, and Tennessee added one as Teddy Huerta was one of three qualifiers in category three.  What makes Huerta’s case interesting is that he earned his first leg at Wake Forest, which was the first qualifying tournament of the year, and finished off his qualification at the Vestavia Hills High School Tournament last week, which was the last qualifying tournament of the year.

The new qualification board has eliminated potential qualifiers from the list since all of the qualification tournaments have finished.  349 extempers earned a leg to the TOC this season, but were not able to get the two legs needed to qualify under category 3.  However, we have retained a copy of this list in our records and if any of the results for tournaments that we don’t have full results for (Lamar Consolidated and Nevada Forensics Invitational) help any of those extempers get their second leg they will be added to the qualification list.  The TOC qual board will be updated when we receive more state tournament results, so when you have those please send them to us.
